CAA A Limited, Narrowly Tailored Law For Specific Reasons, Says MHA

<p><strong>New Delhi: </strong>The annual report of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday said Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is limited and narrowly-tailored legislation that seeks to provide relaxation to specific communities from specified countries with a clear cut-off date.</p> <p>The CAA, which was instituted in 2019 and is yet to be implemented, means to allow citizenship to those individuals from the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian people groups who confronted persecution in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.</p> <p>The sanctioning of the law set off fights, prompting around 100 deaths in different pieces of the country.</p> <p>The protesters claimed that the law disregards the Constitution as it intends to give Indian citizenship based on religion - - notwithstanding Muslims.</p> <p>"The CAA is a limited and narrowly tailored legislation which seeks to provide a relaxation to aforesaid specific communities from the specified countries with a clear cut-off date. It is a compassionate and ameliorative legislation," the MHA annual report for 2020-21 said.</p> <p>It said the CAA doesn't matter to Indian residents and subsequently, in no way removes or compresses their privileges.</p> <p>Further, the legal process of acquiring Indian citizenship by any foreigner of any classification as given in the Citizenship Act, 1955 is especially functional and the CAA doesn't change or adjust this lawful situation in any way at all, the report brought up.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ</strong>: <a title="Delhi: Massive Fire Breaks Out At Bhalaswa Dump Yard, 10 Fire Tenders At Spot | Watch" href="https://ift.tt/UyPzF69" target="">Delhi: Massive Fire Breaks Out At Bhalaswa Dump Yard, 10 Fire Tenders At Spot | Watch</a></p> <p>Subsequently, legitimate migrants of any religion from any nation will keep on getting Indian citizenship once they satisfy the eligibility conditions given in the law for registration or naturalisation, it said.</p> <p>The Constitution has given special provisions under the Sixth Schedule to grant protection to the tribal and native individuals of the northeastern district.</p> <p>The CAA has rejected the regions under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and the areas covered by the Inner Line Permit framework under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, the report noted.</p> <p>"Hence, the CAA does not affect the protection granted by the Constitution to indigenous population of northeastern states," it said.</p> <p>The CAA was told on December 12, 2019, and came into force on January 10, 2020. It means to work with the award of citizenship to travelers having a place with the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian people groups from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who had come to India prior to December 31, 2014.</p> <p><em>(With PTI inputs)</em></p>
