Jahangirpuri Violence: Amit Shah Directs Delhi Police To Take Strict Action Against Culprits
<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday directed the Delhi Police to take strict action against those involved in the Jahangirpuri violence on Hanuman Jayanti, PTI reported.</p> <p>Amit Shah dialled Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana and asked the police to take action and set a precedent.</p> <p>Clashes broke out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in the national capital's Jahangirpuri area on Saturday in which eight policemen and a civilian were injured.</p> <p><strong>READ | <a title="Man Who Opened Fire During Jahangirpuri Violence Arrested, Says Delhi Police" href="https://ift.tt/cdpfeFk" target="">Man Who Opened Fire During Jahangirpuri Violence Arrested, Says Delhi Police</a></strong></p> <p>Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said 23 people belonging to two different communities were arrested so far in connection with the violence.</p> <p>The investigation into the clashes has been handed over to the Crime Branch and 14 teams have been formed to take it forward.</p> <p>An FIR was registered on Saturday under Indian Penal Code sections, including 307 (attempt to murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 147 (rioting), and provisions of the Arms Act in connection with the incident.</p> <p>Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man who was seen opening fire during the violence in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area was arrested. The accused has been identified as Sonu alias Imam alias Yunus, a resident of C-Block in Jahangirpuri, police said.</p> <p>The prime accused in the violence have been identified as Ansar and Aslam. They have been sent to one-day police custody by a local court on Monday, reported news agency ANI.</p> <p>A large number of security personnel, including those from the anti-riot force, were deployed in the violence-hit areas of Jahangirpuri on Monday. </p> <p>Over 500 police officers and six more police companies have been stationed in the region around the clock, PTI quoted a senior official as saying.</p> <p><strong><em>(With PTI inputs)</em></strong></p>
