Telangana: Police Step Up Security As Protests Erupt Over Remarks Against Prophet In Hyderabad

<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> In the wake of overnight protests against suspended BJP leader T Raja Singh's alleged remarks on Prophet Mohammed, police stepped up security in different parts of Hyderabad and said the situation is currently under control, news agency PTI reported.</p> <p>According to the report, an AIMIM legislator wrote to the Telangana Assembly Speaker, seeking for 'expulsion' of Singh, also the BJP Floor leader.</p> <p>Meanwhile, a war of words broke out between the opposition BJP and TRS, with BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar alleging the TRS was trying to spark communal riots to deflect attention from certain allegations against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's family.</p> <p>Reacting to this, TRS leader B Vinod Kumar slammed the BJP over and criticised it for its polarisation politics.</p> <p>In the wake of the unrest, state police deployed additional forces in parts of the city.</p> <p>Notably, Singh was arrested on Tuesday over his alleged remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed in a viral video. Later, he was granted bail by a local court.</p> <p>Following his release, people took to streets in various parts of the city, including Charminar area, prompting the police to step up security.</p> <p>As per reports, the protestors, holding black flags, gathered in Shahalibanda and Charminar area, demanding the arrest of Raja Singh.</p> <p>"Additional forces have been deployed wherever it is necessary. Some protests were held last night. But the situation is peaceful now,' PTI quoted G Biksham Reddy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Charminar as saying.</p> <p>&ldquo;The situation is peaceful and under control. No one is taken into custody,&rdquo; Additional Commissioner of Police, law and order, DS Chauhan said.</p> <p>Meanwhile, fearing escalation of protests, educational institutions in some parts of the city remained closed on Wednesday.</p> <p>Notably, AIMIM MLAs reached several parts of the old city and tried to reason with the protestors, the party sources said.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM legislator Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri wrote to Telangana Assembly Speaker P Srinivas Reddy, urging him to initiate 'expulsion' proceedings against Raja Singh.</p> <p>"Raja Singh has repeatedly incited violence and promoted enmity, hatred and ill-will against Muslims. Thus, he has also violated his oath to uphold the integrity of India. This statement is the most recent example proving that he is unfit to be a member of the House," the AIMIM leader said.</p> <p>Telangana Congress leader Rashid Khan also stoked a row that he would burn down entire Goshamahal area in the city over the Raja Singh episode.</p> <p>A video has gone viral where Rashid Khan can be seen issuing a warning to KCR government that he would burn down Goshamahal, if Raja Singh was not arrested on August 23.</p>
